The Foefire: Guild Wars 2 Guide to Gems

Hello and welcome to this weeks Foefire! The Foefire is the weekly Guild Wars 2 column for www.pcgameinsider.BlogSpot.com In this weeks Foefire, I E Xeon Gutierrez will be discussing spending and getting gems in Guild Wars 2. For those of you who don't know, gems are the real money currency in Guild Wars 2, although you can get them via C/S/G.

Currency Gems/Unit Unit/Gem
British Pounds 94Gem.png £1.0625/100Gem.png
EU Euros 80Gem.png/€ €1.25/100Gem.png
US Dollars 80Gem.png/$ $1.25/100Gem.png
Gems 800 1600 2800 4000
£ 8.50 17.00 29.75 42.50
$ or € 10.00 20.00 35.00 50.00

You can purchase either 800 gems, 1600, 2800, or 4000. Use these rates to figure out the real money prices for these items below. As for coin prices (You can trade coin for gems), that is decided by the player driven economy. At time of writing, it is 1 silver for 10 gems.

So first of in "style" there is the cosmetic items. These you are able to preview, so you can see what you like, and buy it. I cant really say what is a good buy, and what isn't. It is in the eyes of the beholder, as these are cosmetics. I can list them though. Must buys I think is the Celebration Hat, simply because it is free, celebratory, and awesome.
Aviator Sunglasses (150 gems for 1)
Boxing Gloves (300 gems for 1)
Cook's Outfit (700 gems for 1)
Celebration Hat (0 gems for 1)
Inventor Sunglasses (150 for 1)
Krytan Armor Skin (500 for 1) (Medium armor)
Pirate Captain Outfit (700 for 1)
Primeval Armor Skin (500 for 1) (heavy)
Profane Armor Skin (500 for 1) (light)
Reading Glasses (150 for 1)
Ring Master Hat (200 for 1)
Sailor's Beanie (200 for 1)
Sport Sunglasses (150 for 1)
Top hat (200 for 1)
Wide Rim Glasses (150 for 1)

Next is Consumables, these are single use items. Standouts? Basic Transmution stone, for changing appearance of items, with ones with better stats. Maybe Tournament ticket, and Black Lion Key (If you have the chests) Just check here for list: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gem_Store

Next is Services, these are convenience items. I would say that the Black Lion Merchant is good, its cheap, and useful. Other then that, I don't think the others are that useful, but still they are good.

Account items are next. I think that ALL of these are good.
Bank Tab, is obviously useful. (you can have 8)
Character Slot Expansion, are the first things I will buy. You will need 3 of these, in order to have one of each class. I think these are the most important things in this gem store.
World Transfer No one has used these, as world transfer is currently free, but I think these will be useful.

Of the boosts, Crafting and Magic Find will give the most band for your buck. Why not XP? Because it is only XP from kills, and that is a small part of the XP you get. Crafting is good, if you save up a whole bunch of mats, and craft all at once. Magic find is good, so you can get tons of Greens and Blues.

Minis? Thesea re awesome. Get them. I don't know, I love mini pets, so if you want pets, get this.

Bag slot expansion is good, and Digital Deluxe Upgrade will be the second thing I get after char slots. This is a great way to use Coin or Gems to upgrade to the Digital Deluxe, for those who didn't get.  I will use this.

Well that is the www.pcgameinsider.BlogSpot.com guide to gems in Guild wars 2! I hope you enjoyed it, and used the GW2 wiki link and this guide, to find out what you want to buy!

Excelsior!
