FTL is a RPG Rougelike, where you manage a spaceship. It is an indie game that started off as a kickstarter, that got far over 100% of the money needed. You would think that would let them have a working featured options menu right? Well they dont. FTL has the worst options menu I have ever seen, and it isnt even a port.
| Worst Options Menu in Existence |
This picture is the options menu. Terrible. It has almost no options. The options it does have, dont work properly. Fullscreen without black bars, still has black bars. The Black Bar option also has black bars. This is worse then Dark Souls. There are also no modes other then single player. Multi would be awesome, but there is none. Lack of replaybaility.
Now to the actual gameplay itself. Suprisingly, the gameplay is really good.
First in the hanger you get to customize your ships, and see achivements. That is good, good ship and weapon variety. And possibly the best feature of this game. You can rename the ship and the crew. This is possibly the funnest part of the game. I can put Ben on weapons and watch as he ruins the HMS BTX. I love this. It makes the ship and crew feel your own.
The gameplay itself is really simplictic yet fun. You manage a space ship. In a Text Adventure. Yes a text adventure. Lots of text and intresting choices that determine the fate of your spaceship. Also the Liberation. Nuff said. The Star trek game, ST fans never got. I hate slaver ships now. Though I love destroying them, and adding crew to me. You use the crew to man the systems of the ship (you can buy more) and go to the enemy ship and fight them.
As to weather you should get FTL, despite the problems? Depends on how you say "PC Game." If the emphaisis is on PC, run away and dont come back. If the emphasis is on game, get this.
