As you may or may not know, this is the last Inferno. I am really sad about that because Diablo 3 is my favioret game. Ah well. I will probbably fold it in to a RPG general collumn focused on D3.
Anyway this article is basicly RE: http://pcgameinsider.blogspot.com/2012/09/torchlight-2-vs-diablo-3.html Ben you are Wrong edition.
OFFLINE MODE
Ben says this, "Things for those concerned with online and
offline TL2 has both, sadly no online store. D3 has only online (single player
but you need internet to login and play) but you can bid even get real $ off the
game."
I agree, Diablo 3 having the store makes it better, but Torchlight 2 actually has an offline mode so it wins in this. Ben is right, Torchlight 2 wins this part.
GRAPHICS AND LOADING SCREEN AND PREFORMANCE
Ben did not say anything about this. I have noticed that the loading screens do suck in Torchlight 2. They take forever. Diablo 3's are basicly instant. This wouldent get me angry, but Torchlight 2's graphics suck. Diablo 3 has way better graphics. Torchlight 2 has less randomization as well. Torchlight 2 is sub-par in things that would increase loading screen, yet its is longer.
Diablo 3 definatley wins this part.
BUDGETS AND PRICE
While we are talking about things that aren't related to gameplay, the budget behind Torchlight 2 is much smaller. It is just a small cheap indie game, so it makes since it is nowhere near as good as Diablo 3. Torchlight 2 not only has a small budget, but a small price. This is really good. If you dont have enough money for Diablo 3, then just get Torchlight 2, it is only 20$ vs Diablo 3 60$. Torchlight 2 is worse though. The only other reason I see too get Torchlight 2, is if you dont have internet accses. If you cant use the internet alot, then get TL2 instead.
Winner in Budget: Diablo 3, winner in Pricing: Torchlight 2.
They are still tied. Dont worry we arent in gameplay yet.
Boss fights
The boss fights in Torchlight 2 suck. They are just slightly stronger mobs. They are boring. I like Diablo 3's bosses, they are huge bosses with fun mechanics. The bosses in Diablo 3, are basicly like MMO bosses. They are EPIC. I love D3's bosses.
Winner: Diablo 3 my a country mile
End Game+Patch Support
Diablo 3, currently has a bad endgame, however once 1.0.5 hits, it will have a really good one. Once 1.1.0 hits, Diablo 3 will have PvP. That is awesome. Meanwhile Torchlight 2 with its non-existant endgame, has no plans for patching. Diablo 3 obviously wins here, it will get patches constantly and PvP. Torchlight 2 once you beat, is done.
Winner: Diablo 3
ITEMS
This is what Ben has to say, "Items is a TL2 win, D3 has WAY more but most
you just sell, this really annoys me I pick up 50 items and about 1 is good. In
TL2 one in five items is useful, but items are not so common as in D3."
I say ben is wrong. Diablo 3 has alot of items, and alot of them are good. It also has the AH to get more items. Also Diablo 3's items mean way more then Torchlight 2's. Torchlight 2 has so low graphics, that the items dont matter. Yes torchlight 2 has better stats, and things like Augmenation weapons, and enchanting. That is good. I still say Diablo 3 is slightly better in terms of items.
Winner: Diablo 3 slightly
SPELLS:
Ben had nothing to say about this. I say that Diablo 3 has way better spells. Torchlight 2 has only like 15 spells per class. Out of those only 3 are good. Diablo 3 has about 50 spells per class, each with like 9 customizations. There are thousands of spell combos you can do in Diablo 3. Attacking and spells are way better in Diablo 3.
STORYLINE:
Ben had something to say about this, "Storyline is a D3 by a lot, in TL2 I honestly don’t know what is happening while D3 has a clear amazing one . "
I agree. Storyline in Torchlight 2 sucks. Please tell me what any of the story was in TL or TL2. You cant. Its story is awful. It is not clear, boring, un-voiceacted, and basicly non-existent. Diablo 3 on the other hand, has a AWESOME, clear, voice-acted story. Diablo 3's story was so good, it drove me to keep playing. The I must turn the page and see what happens mentality. Diablo 3 is the winner.
COMBAT: Diablo 3 obviously wins. Torchlight 2 is way to cluttered, laggy, and un fun. It doesnt feel good at all. Animations are of, ect ect. Diablo 3 combat is really good.
WINNER:
The winner? Lets tally the points:
Torchlight 2- 2
Diablo 3- 8
Well. It seems that Diablo 3 is way better. It is sort of obvious that it is better. I dont know why there is a comparison to begin with. Diablo 3 wins. Ben is wrong. Nothing is new.
I hope you enjoyed Inferno. Expect more Diablo 3 articles under a diffrent name, in about 2 months. I need to manage my scedual first.
